With just a couple hours of engine prep time, and the 3.4 is no more difficult to swap than it is to install a stock engine. There are a couple other small changes that are required, but nothing too complex. There are several sources for the pattern to locate these holes, and the bosses are already machined into the block. Basically, all you need to do is change the upper and lower plenum (you must use the 2.8 plenums on this engine in order for it to clear the decklid) and drill/tap holes for the starter (the starter mounts on the opposite side of the block from the Fiero, and won’t clear the Fiero cradle if left where it is located on the Camaro/Firebird). This is the closest to a bolt-in swap of them all. Let's talk about the more common Fiero engine swaps a little.įirst, the absolute easiest and most common in the Fiero community is the Camaro/Firebird 3.4 engine. No engine swap is cut-and-dried, even just removing and replacing a stock engine can be a real pain sometimes. Christine is dead on with her assessment.
